We wanted to build an enduro bike that delivers uncompromised performance. No market studies, no bullshit marketing kinematics, only serious engineering straight to the point of making the fastest enduro bike we can imagine.

Our goal was to design an enduro race bike that climbs like an all-mountain bike but descends like a downhill bike. To achieve the highest performance, we knew that we need to go down the “High Pivot Point” road. But there was one thing bothering us with that, and it was the high anti-rise that usually comes along with “High Pivot Point” bikes.

We wanted a bike that conserves the geometry and offers enough traction under braking but also provides massive support under pedaling with no pedal kickback. As soon as we figured how we had to design the kinematics, we were ready to start.

We designed with the rule of simplicity in mind; Straight lines, no unnecessary weight, or shape. We believe that straight tubes do the best job in terms of stiffness too weight ratios, and also they hold strong against impacts.

After one year on the prototypes and many exited people who tried the bike, we decided to improve the design towards a production-ready product and go down the route of becoming a bike brand.

High Anti Squat

Bikes with High Pivot Points naturally offer excellent support under pedaling without the downside of pedal kickback when using an idler pulley to reroute the chain. But we went a bit further and optimized the Anti Squat throughout the gears and travel to achieve what we believe is perfection. Plenty of support when climbing but no Pedal Kickback when descending, that makes you faster!

Custom Geo Options

A Geometry that actually fits you is one of the most important factors to be fast. That´s why we don´t even offer any standard sizes like M/L/XL. But we do offer a set of reach and seattube options which can be combined to fit your personal needs. Reach can be anything between 440 and 540mm in 20 mm steps. Seattube can be 420, 450 or 480 and the headtube can be either 110 or 125 mm.

Technologies

Virtual High Pivot

Our frame takes all the advantages of high pivot point bikes without the disadvantage of a very high anti rise. Unlike typical HPP bikes, our VHP system conserves the geometry and offers enough traction under rear braking. Further, it provides massive support under pedaling without the downside of pedal kickback. The so-called Anti Squat is even fine-tuned trough out gears and travel.

Balanced Anti Rise

Anti Rise is usually the weak point of High Pivot Point bikes as too much Anti Rise results in a less active suspension and loss of travel and traction. That’s why we payed lots of our attention to design a bike that does not change the geometry under rear braking and keeps the suspension active but also prevents the riders mass from shifting forward. We call that system VHP (Virtual High Pivot) and it makes you faster.

Geometry

Allowing a high level of customization is vital for a bike that fits you like a tailored suit. That´s why we don´t offer any standard sizes like medium or large. Instead, we offer a set of Reach and Seat Tube options that can be combined to fit your personal needs. Reach can be anything between 440 and 540mm in 20 mm steps. The seat tube can be 420, 450 or 480 and the headtube can be either 110 or 125 mm. Last but not least, you can decide if you want to build a pure 29er or a Mullet. The switch will be done by exchanging the shock mount so you can change it anytime later on. That totals in 36 possible sizes if we don´t count the Mullet option, no wounder the Geometry table is full of information.

The V3 of the Kavenz has a new position of the Idler Pulley, which maximizes the Anti-Squat. Bikes with High Pivot Points naturally offer excellent support under pedaling without the downside of pedal kickback when using an idler pulley to reroute the chain. But we went a bit further and optimized the Anti Squat throughout the gears and travel to achieve what we believe is perfection. Plenty of support when climbing but no Pedal-Kickback in DH gears! Aha, the 4-Bar XYZ bike we use for comparison is the top model of a big bike brand from Switzerland, which we consider one of the best you can buy.

 

High Pivot Bikes don´t need as much Pedal-Kickback, so the Pedal-Kickback remains very low in comparison to traditional bikes (Grey Graph). You can not recognize any Pedal-Kickback in Medium and DH Gears. We achieve this through the dropping Anti-Squat curve. We did not want to throw to many graphics on you. But if you need to know it: 34/10 results in -2° Pedal Kick-Back, that means total freedom for your rear suspension. 34/50 results in 19° Pedal Kick-Back and 140% Anti-Squat in SAG Zone; this makes the Kavenz feel like an XC Bike. The Pedal Kick-Back displayed is relative to the ground not to the bike frame, so it shows the worst case. If you´d look at the isolated, you´d see even less Pedal Kick-Back.

 

The rearward motion allows the rear wheel to move away from, not against, obstacles. This Axle-Path enables the bike to keep its momentum when the terrain gets rough. If you compare to the grey graph, which is a 4 Bar 29er with equal travel, you see how vast the difference is. Unlike other HPP bikes, we did not go radical with the rear axle path to maintain the Anti-Rise value under 100% and avoid weight shifting. That keeps the suspension open and conserves the geometry if you hit your rear brake hard, which means traction and control.

The 4 Bar XYZ bike would rise when you hit the rear brake and steepen the geometry. A typical HPP bike would squat, which would stiffen up the rear suspension but give you a slacker geometry. A high Anti-Rise can be useful for DH racing where you know your lines and braking points blind. That's why we designed a bike that does not change the geometry under rear braking and keeps the suspension active but also prevents the rider's mass from shifting forward. We call that system VHP (Virtual High Pivot), and it makes you faster.

 

The suspension design generates 160 mm of travel using a 65 mm stroke shock, producing a 30% progression. In the beginning, the bike is very supple. The mid-stroke is designed to provide adequate support when you push and pump, but remain open enough to absorb big hits with no harshness. The end stroke does not increase further in the rate as most shocks feature some bottom out elements, and we want to make use of the entire travel.
